Keep On £0.99Middlesbrough.
Birthplace of Chris Rea, Wendy Richard, Paul Daniels and Nick Turner. A fine pedigree.
Nick’s been on our radar since before APR was even conceived – our ears pricked up when we heard ‘Second Time Lucky’ – a swirling, quirky Deep House gem circa 2009ish.
Since then his career’s sky-rocketed. Check out ‘Love Is Reel’ on Trendy Mullet, his remix of MannMadeMusic’s ‘NotForTheMoney’ and his recent rehash of ‘Gettin Heavy’ by Bailey Jamille on Lady Blacktronika’s Sound Black Recordings – plus loads more in the pipeline.
He’s a cracking jock aswell – he kindly played a set at our last PYRMD label party in Newcastle and the girls were lapping him up. Ahem. I would say he lifted the roof off – but the venue didn’t have one.
His debut full release for APR is probably about as ‘Big Room’ as we’ve gotten so far. And by that I don’t mean Swedish-Mau5-Mafia fodder – I mean three big slabs of proper hooky deep chunky house. It’s all about the adjectives.
‘Keep On’ and ‘Love Me Too’ are NOT tracks that’ll work well on every dance floor. That might sound like a bad quote for a promo mailout, but if you try playing either of these in your chilled bar set – you’re going to get punters dancing like crazy people, sorry. These are made to be played in the main room, at the peak of your set. If you disagree with this statement, and can prove me wrong – I’ll buy you a hat.
‘Mellow Waves’ has a rather deceiving title. The track’s led by thick, chunky kicks and stabs – accompanied by climbing pads – this is driving, heads-down gear for when the passing trade has dispersed and the serious dancers are locked-in.
It’s great to finally have Nick on board and welcomed proper to the APR family. It’s been a long time coming, but it’s certainly been worth the wait.
